The Welding Technology program blends science and art to secure jobs in the local welding industry. This hands-on program provides skills-based instruction needed to create all sorts of metal structures to keep the world running. Welders use tools to fuse metal in a wide variety of industries from steel beam construction in buildings to manufacturing and even car racing. Coursework provides fundamental instruction in the major welding processes including Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) along with training in safety, blueprint reading, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting and carbon arc cutting. Advanced courses will incorporate fabrication and finishing techniques to prepare you for testing and certification for local employment. Upon completion, students receive an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Technology. For an expedited path to employment, students may obtain a short term Welding Technology Certificate through our traditional classes or the expedited WLD 230 Industrial Welding Specialist (20-week welding) program.
